Kylie's debut historical novel, The Storyteller of Wyld Hall, will be published by Allen & Unwin in 2027, with a second novel to follow in 2028.
Kylie Mansfield writes historical fiction that explores love, loss, connection, and the quiet strength of ordinary people in extraordinary times. Inspired by a lifelong love of books and a deep fascination with the past, her work is often set in the late Victorian era and across the years of the World Wars.
Kylie’s debut novel, The Storyteller of Wyld Hall, is inspired in part by her grandparents’ experiences in Blitz-era London and by a serendipitous visit to a National Trust manor on the edge of the Avon Gorge. The novel unfolds across dual timelines, weaving together a haunting World War II past and its reverberations decades later. Set in a grand old house that seems to hold its own memories within the walls, it tells the story of Bella Connelly - what she suffered, what she lost, and, most importantly, what she survived. At its heart, The Storyteller of Wyld Hall is a tale of secrets, friendship, fear and the enduring power of stories to preserve the traces of lives that might otherwise be forgotten.
“I have always loved stories and have amused and soothed myself with them for as long as I can remember. I suppose the long road was always leading me here: to becoming a published author. But life placed other loves in my hands before this dream had the chance to take root—to be a mother, to build a life, to endure love and loss and all the strange in-between things that shape a person into who they are.
And now, to receive this book deal—to be given a chance to nurture something that was planted so long ago—almost feels surreal. But more than that… I am beyond excited, and so deeply grateful that I have been given an opportunity to focus my attention on something that has quietly lived inside me for such a long time, patiently waiting beneath the surface of my life.”
Kylie grew up in a family of storytellers and booklovers, where she learned early the magic of words and the power stories hold to comfort, entertain, and transport. With family roots in the United Kingdom and stories passed down by grandparents who survived the Second World War, she developed a lasting fascination with history, memory, and the resilience of everyday lives.
